The trial of a stick-wielding man, who attempted to attack Bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira during an Easter service has started today before Mwanga II Magistrate Court .
Hebert Solomon Kaddu a resident of Mackay Zone, Mengo in Rubaga Division is accused of threatening to injure Bishop Luwalira and Rev. Canon Kityo with violence and disturbing religious assemblies.
Prosecution’s witness number one has been an Official at Namirembe Cathedral, Rauben Wasswa Luwagga who narrated to Court what he saw on the morning of 1st/April 2018.
Luwagga is the one seen in a video clad in a blue robe, trying to intercept Kaddu as he ran towards the alter in a bark -cloth and armed with a stick.
He told Presiding Magistrate Julius Mwesigye that on the fateful day , he vividly saw Kaddu interrupting the Service which caused a standoff for about 10 minutes, as him and other church officials tried to arrest him .
That he was taken to Namirembe Police Post, but his actions left both the congregation and the Clergy in total shock.
The twisted stick and the back cloth have also been identified to court, and they were all accepted by court as prosecution exhibits.
When the Magistrate asked Kaddu to cross examine Luwagga, he informed court that he does not remember what happened but all he remembers are beatings from people who never listened to his version of the story that he was mentally sick and receiving medical treatment at Butabika Hospital.
Kaddu however maintains that both the stick and bark cloth were given to him by his grandfather.
The hearing has now been adjourned to July 2, 2018.
