Uganda’s top-tier basketball league kicks off with reigning National Basketball champions City Oil facing Betway Power at MTN Arena Lugogo.

The much-fancied encounter will take place on Friday proceeded by ladies champions Uganda Christian University Lady Canons playing A1 Challenge.

Arnold Lando’s Power side have strengthened during the offseason recruiting former Falcons star Sunday Okoth, Francis Kasinde, Athieng Lual, Sulaiman Bbale and Diego Angemi while Oilers who lost Kemi Kabenge to a Rwandan club have also recruited Uganda national team captain Steven Omony, Joseph Chuma and James Deng as they seek to retain the championship for a third straight time.

More action will take place on Sunday when Gladiators play Javon Ladies, JKL Dolphins battle former champions Falcons, Nkumba Marines encounter the UPDF Tomahawks, Sharing Youth play UCU Canons and Ndejje University Angels battle KIU Titans in the final matchup of the weekend.

Meanwhile, Uganda will in October host the Zone V Club Championships, says FUBA president Ambrose Tashobya thus a great new season will go a long way in ensuring Uganda does well.
