Despite the political struggles Besigye is going through in Uganda, his son Anselm who is probably not common in the ears of many Ugandans because of living with his mother in America has beaten against odds to acquire himself a scholarship to the world’s most prestigious Harvard University.
The scholarship was awarded to Anselm by the Harvard Alumni fund contrary to media reports that the shs250Mllion tuition was going to be paid by his parents Dr Besigye and Engineer Winnie Byanyima.
The joyful mother also Executive Director at Oxfam International confirmed in a tweet expressing gratitude rubbishing a claim by the media that they were going to pay the hefty tuition.
“Anselm has been awarded a generous scholarship from the Harvard alumni fund. We are very grateful!” Winnie Byanyima’s tweet reads in part.
Earlier this month, Byanyima went to social media announcing his son’s admission to Harvard University which is one the most expensive and highly respected universities in the world.
“I am speechless! Anselm has been admitted to Harvard Univ. Proudest mum! Thanking God” she tweeted.
Apart from the parents being very vocal in Uganda’s politics and being celebrated internationally, he, in April this year won the presidency of Oxford University Debating Club which is one of the most prestigious debating Clubs in the world.
The Besigye family has gained more popularity of the recent past not because of the famous defiance campaign but rather the declaration of Engineer Winnie Byanyima’s willingness to serve the country as the first female president.
