Former presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago on Monday donated Shs5 million to victims of the recent Kibuuye Timber Yard fire.

The politicians alongside Rubaga Division Mayor Owek. Joyce Ssebugwawo, Buhweju County MP Hon. Mwijukye Francis, Lord Councillor Damba Ddamba Ismail Kisuze, Rubaga Deputy Mayor Mulangira Asuman Ntale among others were on a mission to sympathise with vendors whose stalls were torched and assess the extent of the damage. Property worth millions was lost as night fire ravages machines and timber at Uganda’s timber yard on July 16, 2017.

“They way they started this fire in Kibuye, they are still burning your markets just like they did to Nakivubo park yard until they were left penniless,” Besigye said.

“Thus I ask you timber traders to rise up, unite and start a SACCO that will ensure that we are insured because they fires are not yet to stop and remember the regime wants to make us slaves, chase us out of our city,” he rallied them.

“This SACCO is the one we are supporting with Shs5 million and next week when I go abroad, I will solicit for more help,” Besigye said to the ecstatic traders.

Kibuye is a densely populated place near Katwe Police station with very many gas stations.
