Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president, Dr Kiiza Besigye has condemned the manner in which the Kabale case in which he is accused over inciting the public on July 14, 2012 is being handled.
Dr Besigye and his co-accused today appeared in Kabale Chief Magistrates Court but prosecution did not produce witnesses once again.
“It is becoming a hopeless case,” his lead counsel Julius Galisonga told TheUgandan from the southwestern district.
“This case has dragged on for over two years and it is obvious there is no evidence to pin my client anymore,” he added. The court adjourned the case until the 12th of January 2017.
Dr Besigye is accused together with Kampala Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago, Kawempe Division South MP Mubaraka Munyagwa, FDC secretary for mobilisation Ingrid Turinawe, Rukungiri Municipality MP Roland Mugume Kaginda and Imam Makumbi, the Democratic Party’s vice president western region.
They allegedly incited the public resulting in chaos where four policemen were injured and four police cars pelted with stones, damaging their windscreens.
Besigye held a peaceful procession in Kabale town on his way back to Kampala.
