Mitra Square in Lugala, Rubaga is already a beehive of celebrations as a number of people who hail from Kisoro, now living in Kampala and other surrounding areas commence activities at their inaugural cultural fete.
The association chairman, Edgar Nimpa Mfite, in a phone interview with TheUgandan says hundreds of Bafumbira have already started convening at the reunion venue for the festivities before they hold discussions to identify the socio-economic problems facing their home area and then forge a way forward.
“We have so many activities lined up for today (Sunday, Dec 18th) including folk activities like kwivuga (poetry), our local dance called isangane, enjoying local food, brew and have some team building games like break calabashes like our ancestors used to during their gatherings,” Mr. Mfite reveals.
At the celebration, their local drinks like Umumanurangutiya, Urwagwa, Inturire, have been ferried from Kisoro alongside local foods like Imbuguyu (prepared from maize and beans), Igishoma, Urunyogi (a sauce made of fresh peas), Ibihaza (pumpkins) and others like Igisusa, Inyabutongo, Isaaga, Shusha are being prepared and served throughout the whole day of fun, games and socializing washed down by drinks like Inkumba, umushuhira, ubugi, umuteke and umusabike among others.
Philemon Mateke, the state minister for regional cooperation, the Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura, Assistant Commissioner of Prisons Hillary Bisanga, Alex Resida a a top global lawyer, Tom Mugenga and renowned businessman Augustus Caesar Mulenga among many others are some the country’s outstanding personalities who are expected to grace the merriments.
All the children will also be well taken of at the Bafumbira World gathering with bouncing castles, face painting and lots of play games.
