Uganda vs Congo Brazzaville

After turning a cold shoulder to a number of Cranes coach Micho Sredojevic’s summons, US-based player, Mike Azira could be set for a return.

Last week the Serbian tactician told med that the Ugandan midfielder’s would be playing for the national team in Saturday’s 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Congo Brazzaville if Colorado Rapids go won the return leg of the Major Soccer League (MLS) n the Western Conference semi-final against Steven Gerrad’s LA Galaxy – which Rapids accomplished on Monday morning.

“If his team comes through (Conference semifinal playoffs), he will play for us against Congo and goes back,” Micho said.

Though Azira didn’t get any minutes despite being on the bench, the game finished 1-0 to Rapids after Galaxy had won the first leg 1-0 a week ago – leading to the all-important shootout to see who progresses to the end of season showdown in the MLS.  Galaxy lost on penalties which ends their season, and probably Gerrard’s time at the club.

Gerrard’s final moments at Galaxy after joining the US side last year.

He dropped a huge hint on Instagram that he will end his spell at LA Galaxy once the MLS season is over.

Gerrard has said he will consider retiring if he doesn’t receive any acceptable contract offers this winter, saying: “I’m wondering whether I should play on for a little bit longer or whether I should call it a day. I haven’t 100 per cent decided on that yet.

Colorado Rapids midfielder Azira was an unused substitute when Cranes travelled to Burkina Faso during the 2017 Nations Cup qualifiers. Azira also remained on the bench in the return leg three days later.
