Hearing of an appeal filed by the former Mukono District Police Commander James Peter Aurien in the Supreme Court challenging his 40 year jail sentence for murder has flopped, and has now been pushed to the next convenient criminal session of the court.

This is after Aurien’s lawyer, Andrew Sebugwawo, informed a panel of 5 justices led by Stellah Arach Amoko that he is not ready with his submissions today (Thursday), having received the exhibits in his client’s case two days ago.

Aurien who survived death in 2016, after the Court of Appeal reduced his sentence to 40 years in jail, made an appeal to the highest court of the land in order to prove his innocence.

In 2016, the Court of Appeal upheld Aurien’s murder conviction, but overturned his death sentence on account that he has a chance to reform.

Aurien had been sentenced by Mukono High Court judge Lawrence Gidudu in November 2010, for shooting his wife Christine Apolot, whom he suspected of having an extra-marital affair.
