United State (US) is set to end operations against Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in Central Africa Republic as a top US military official says the rebel group has been reduced to ‘irrelevance” after joint operations.
Joseph Kony, leader of the LRA rebel group, is still at large but US National Counterterrorism Center believes he is in poor health.
In 2010, the US deployed around 100 special forces to work with regional armies to defeat the LRA and try to capture Kony.
LRA has killed more than 100,000 people and kidnapped 60,000 children in a three-decade-long rebellion spanning northern Uganda, South Sudan, Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo since it was set up in 1987.
