The previous army chief General Katumba Wamala has been made a junior Minister for Works in the government after serving as the top army official since 2013, a departure seen as a demotion but the firing is being celebrated by locals in Kalangala Ssese, as a blessing in disguising.
The decorated army man has told his people to stop over talking about his demotion as he is calculating at attaining bigger things ahead.
A guest of honour at a thanksgiving ceremony at Misindye, Buikwe organized by the mayor of Buikwe Town Council on Sunday, Gen. Katumba said: “Baganda have a saying “squeezing out of a dead man” in this case, I think it is time to not to speak much so that we can see where we are going. There is some one who wrote a called Kikoyongo (Boomerang), me Gen. Katumba am a boomerang, I have the unique ability to return to the thrower.”
He added that; “I have heard so many words being talked about my sacking from the army but me as Katumba I have critically looked at this issue at the bigger picture not present postings. So I ask my supporters not to say much for now because it can distablize our planned things in future.”
Standing for Bujumba MP seat
TheUgandan understands that new Bujumba County Member of Parliament, Mukasa Opondo’s political career has been declared dead at arrival after the last week’s shake up in the UPDF.
His voters now want Gen. Katumba to replace MP Opondo because he is a more experienced and connected son who can change their fortunes once in Parliament.
While still in the UPDF’s top leadership, Gen. Katumba born to late Henry Wamala and Dorothy Wamala at Dajje-Bweza village in Bujumba County has been credited for setting up different projects in Kalangala most notably a new health center commissioned last year. Dagye/Bweza Rotary Health Centre that cost over 200 million shillings has a pharmacy, maternity ward, dental ward, Cancer screening, paediatric ward, out patient department and staff quarters.
Political analysts in Kampala say Gen Katumba Wamala is tipped to quickly rise to full minister (regardless of ministry) before landing the gig of prime minister or vice president in 2021.
In that case, Ugandans should be be prepared for the possibility of a good Muganda with military credentials rising to be next president. The loser here will be current Vice President Edward Ssekandi, a good Muganda with Executive experience but without military pips.
