How Allen Kagina, Doris Akol and ED Musisi were branded pigs by angry youth

First were the Members of Parliament who were portrayed as filthy pigs for increasing their salaries, exempting themselves from tax and directing all the benefits their way.

The latest to taste the wrath of the angry Ugandan youths – Jobless Brotherhood who have gained fame by dropping pigs at parliament are heads of government especially those who benefited from the Shs6billion handshake.

It was again drama as police arrested three boda-boda riders who were suspected to be part of the youth who dumped five piglet heads branded with names of the beneficiaries of the oil cash bonanza.

The five piglet heads were dumped near Kampala Capital City Authority headquarters with placards bearing names of the top government officials that benefited from Shs6b presidential hand shake with the amount that each pocketed.

The pigs’ heads where socked in yellow paint and tagged with names of the oil cash bonanza beneficiaries.

The names inscribed included that of Doris Akol the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Commissioner General, Keith Muhakanizi Finance ministry’s permanent secretary (PS), and Jennifer Musisi the Kampala Capital City Authority’s executive director.

Others were Earnest Rubondo and Robinah Rwakojo.

Painted in yellow, the colour of the ruling party, the pig heads were dumped at the junction of Portal Avenue and Sir Apollo Kagwa road.

The operation to arrest the suspects was led by Mr Joseph Bakaleke, the Central Division Police commander who led police officers to collect the pig heads which were taken to an unknown place.

Bakaleke said: “We have not arrested any one in connection to this but our concern was who could have dumped the rubbish.”

Shortly after the running battles with police, the youth activists under their umbrella body of jobless brotherhood claimed to have been behind the demonstration.

It is not clear why the youth this time brought just heads since they have always dropped live piglets.

Pig demos

Pigs have become synonymous with negative attributes, especially greed, gluttony, and uncleanliness, and these ascribed attributes have often led to critical comparisons between pigs and humans, explaining why the youth demonstrators have always used the animals.

The Jobless Brotherhood youth have dumped pigs’ heads at the Ministry of Finance offices in protest of the shs6 billion presidential handshake which was shared by 42 government officials after Heritage, Tullow oil tax gains settlement.
