After jailed murder suspects Mathew Kanyamunyu and two co-accused (Joseph Kanyamunyu and Cynthia Munwangari) being denied bail by High court Judge Elizabeth Kibula Kabanda last month, the trio have given it another shot and re-applied for bail before Kampala High Court.
They are accused of the alleged murder of a little known social worker Kenneth Akena, 33, who was was thrust into the lime-light by the circumstances of his death at Lugogo on November 12. He was a child specialist at a non-governmental organisation in Kasese.
Mr Grace Karuhanga the suspects’ lawyer wants to prove to Judge Kabanda that they are ready to prove exceptional circumstance of granting the three bail and that their release will not jeopardize the pending investigations.

It is alleged that Kanyamunyu, who was in the company of his girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari, shot Akena after his car scratched theirs. Kanyamunyu, Munwangari and his brother Joseph Kanyamunyu have since been charged with Akena’s murder and remand to prison.
The DPP promises to water down claims by Matthew Kanyamunyu, his girlfriend, Cynthia Munwangari that they only acted as good Samaritans and rushed Akena to hospital when they found him bleeding from the gunshots.
Akena’s death led to an out-pouring of public grief and triggered tribal sentiments on social media after allegations that police was treating the suspects in a special way.
They are still remanded in Luzira prison.
