The family of slain child rights activist Kenneth Akena has revealed that they are content with how the alleged killer Matthew Kanyamunyu and his co-accused are facing murder charges.
Speaking outside Nakawa Magistrates Court after the mention of their case on Tuesday morning, Kitgum Municipality MP Beatrice Anywar who was together with the late Akena’s relatives were in court said she was satisfied that the process of ensuring Akena receives justice was going on well.
“It is a procedure because a criminal case cannot be hurried. We are satisfied with the process and we pray justice be reached,” Anywar told reporters stressing they will have to wait for justice to take its course.
Mr Kanyamunyu, 39, was jointly charged with his girlfriend Cynthia Munangwari, and his elder brother Joseph Kanyamunyu, a public relations guru, last month. The trio was charged with murder, an offence for which the maximum penalty is death.
State Attorney Racheal Nabwire informed court that investigations into the case were still incomplete, seeking adjournment.
Mr Grace Karuhanga the suspects’ lawyer asked court to block journalists from attending court saying that they were “not organised in what they were doing’ after a journalist told him to even sit down because he was obstructing him.
The trial magistrate Noah Sajjabi further remanded the suspects to Luzira Maximum Security Prison until December 20, 2016 when they will reappear for mention of their case.
