Rukungiri Magistrates Court was on Wednesday awed after a Forum for Democratic Change  activist Joseph Bamushanjire Jr. claimed he was allegedly tortured by police  while in custody.

Joseph, identified as  the son of renowned Canon Bamushanjire, was arrested together with other two activists while being led to court displayed blood stained clothes.  He has been held at Rukungiri police since Wednesday last week.

He said he was tortured and no treatment has been given.

Dr. Besigye’s co-accused, the former presidential candidate, Ms Ingrid Turinawe, candidate for the party presidency Patrick Amuriat and Rukungiri District councillor Innocent Tashobya have been granted a non cash bail.

A woman looks at Joseph, one of Dr Besigye co-accused who was allegedly tortured by police.
Police claim that the four-time FDC presidential candidate and his co-accused had commanded a procession in Rukungiri on October 18 where one person was killed although court has today preferred charging them with four counts of incitement of violence, one count of disobedience of statutory duty and one count of malicious damage of police vehicles.
