Age Limit: MP Magyezi orders firing of some legal committee members

As the move to lift the presidential age limit picks pace, Igara West Member of Parliament Raphael Magyezi wants the membership of parliament’s legal committee to be changed.

Magyezi cites bias on the side of Opposition Chief Whip Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, Masaka Municipality MP Mathias Mpuuga, Kumi Woman MP Monica Amoding, National Female Youth MP Adeke Anna Ebaju, Kampala Central MP Muhammed Nsereko, Busiro East MP Medard Lubega Seggona, Ndorwa East Wilfred Niwagaba, Kitagwenda County MP Agaba Abbas Mugisha among others.

The committee was recently tasked to scrutinize the constitutional amendment bill, which seeks to among others, make President Yoweri Museveni eligible to contest for another term of office.

On Wednesday, Magyenzi called on Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa while addressing said that she is considering adding more NRM MPs to the legal committee ahead of the consideration ‘age limit’ bill. The Rules of Procedure provide for a maximum of 30 MPs on a particular committee.
