There is no mention of age limit bill in today’s Parliament order paper of the 16th sitting of the second meeting of the second session on Tuesday, 12th December 2017, TheUgandan can confirm.
While the country waits for a historic debate on the proposed Constitutional amendment presented to Parliament by Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi partly aimed at the scrapping the presidential age limit, security reinforcements maintain their presence the Parliament Buildings in Kampala as lawmakers prepare to discuss among others, a report of the Ugandan delegation to the World youth leaders assembly in the USA in August, listen to the Education Service Annual report and the Bills committee’s second reading of the Anti-counterfieting Bill, 2015 among others but not time to execute plans to change the constitution in a move that would allow President Museveni seek another term in office after clocking the mandatory 75 years.
Tuesday’s discussions come just days after the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee completed writing its report.
Many expected legislators today to tackle the Constitution (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 2017 seeks to amend the Constitution to provide adequate time within which to hold presidential, parliamentary and local government elections and to alter eligibility requirements for persons standing for President or District Chairperson.
NOTE: Despite the Bill not among the items to be debated, the order paper can be amended to include the item.
