Former presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye and FDC secretary for Mobilization, Ingrid Turinawe, FDC presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat and Rukungiri district councillor, Innocent Tashobya on Wednesday were granted a non cash bail by the Rukungiri Chief Magistrate Court.

They have been charged with four counts of incitement of violence, one count of disobedience of statutory duty and one count of malicious damage of police vehicles.

Dr. Besigye, Ingrid Turinawe, and five others have been granted a non cash bail in Rukungiri.

The four have been in detention at Nagalama for several days.

Dr Besigye, a four time presidential challenger walked into the court not cuffed immediately after his colleagues checked in.

Kizza Besigye and three others have been seeking unconditional release from Nagalama police station.
FDC presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat arrives at Rukungiri courtroom on Wednesday.

Dr Besigye was arrested following the killing of an opposition supporter during a protest in the western city of Rukungiri, Besigye’s hometown.
The protesters were marching against a ruling party plan to amend the constitution to remove presidential age limits, a move that would allow President Yoweri Museveni to stand for a sixth consecutive term in 2021.

Fdc secretary for Mobilization, Ingrid Turinawe has been held in custody since a protest last week.
