A 42-year-old man went berserk and slashed his wife to death following a disagreement over a basin of simsim seeds.
Moro Caesar from Loi village in Ligiligi Parish on Tuesday is reported to have attacked his wife Akot Isirina after she confronted him over selling a basin of simsim and using the payment of Shs20,000 to drink waragi in the trading center while their three children starved.
They fought when he tried to take more produce for sale and in the process slashed her several times with a machete killing her on the spot according to Okwir Mohammed, the chairman LC III of Adilang Sub County.
Neighbours said the two had disagreed often. Cases of tragic domestic squabbles have been on the rise across the district, common reasons being poverty and infidelity.
Uganda is the fifth largest producer of simsim in the world and the second largest in Africa. It is estimated that the annual production is 170,000 metric tonnes.
