Police in Dokolo district have arrested a 44-year-old man after being caught redhanded he attempted to exhume a dead body of Geoffrey Ogwal. Ogwal died after being bitten by a snake last week.
Police said they are investigating the motive behind the exhumation although the man is suspected to be a cannibal.
The suspect is currently held at Dokolo Central Police Station. He is a resident of Aringading village, Alenga parish, Dokolo Sub-county in Dokolo.
Ogwal, who was buried on Friday, last week was laid to rest on Saturday.
The suspected cannibal then sneaked to the graveyard with a stick in the wee hours of Saturday morning. He was then arrested by suspicious mourners who heard the man calling the deceased’s name. He was later handed over to police.
According to police, the suspect will be charged with disturbing the peace of the dead.
Dokolo. The district derives its name from Adag kolo, literally meaning “we don’t want aggression, we are peaceful people.”
Dokolo is a gate way district to the north from the eastern region. It was originally part of Lira District, before it was curved out in 2005 and it became an independent district on August 6, 2006.
