How Museveni tactically dropped Kasese’s Gen. Mbadi and elevated Gen. Elwelu to army boss

As Maj. Gen. Peter Elwelu, the Commander Land Forces steps up to be decorated this Tuesday at Defence Headquarters in Mbuya, his appointment has left mixed reactions within the UPDF and the Rwenzori belt.

This website understands that the people of Kasese are cusring the president for elevating the man who ‘butchered’ them during the raid on Rwenzururu king Charles Mumbere’s palace last year.

“Kasese people are cursing the head of state claiming he has rewarded a murderer,” a military source revealed, adding that this Kasese narrative is the reason why the former Joint Chief of Staff Wilson Mbadi their own son was even denied the post of Chief of Defence Forces and made the deputy CDF, according to a dossier by security journalist, Henry Mulindwa.

Because he hails from Kasese, Mbadi was appointed deputy CDF because Museveni allegedly wanted to send a signal to the people of Kasese that even the little posts in government and the army they have been holding can be taken away.

Indeed, Museveni first punished them by firing then Defense Minister Crispus Kiyonga from cabinet and now he has tactically dropped Gen. Mbadi.

“The post of deputy CDF is almost a Katebe office. There is nothing in apart from being the inspector general of the forces. In this offices, it is basically to do with investigations which are not even easy to come by. This why when Lt. Gen. Ivan Koreta was deputy CDF, he was ever playing golf because because he had no work,” the military source disclosed.

Maj. Gen. Peter Elwelu, who joined the armed forces in 1987, cut star military teeth by exceeding expectations as commander of the first Ugandan military contingent deployed to rein in lawlessness in Somalia under the African Union banner.

The winner in all this intrigue is Maj. Gen. Peter Elwelu because he is now actually the real army commander because all ground forces (which form 85%) of UPDF are under him.
