Museveni promotes Joseph Musanyufu to Gen. Mbadi’s JCoS

President Yoweri Museveni has promoted one of his most trusted soldiers, Maj. General Joseph Musanyufu, 54, to become new Uganda Peoples Defence Forces Joint Chief of Staff in this week’s reshuffle of army commanders.

Gen. Museveni, the Commander in Chief of the armed forces had left the sensitive position vacant on Tuesday morning when the previous army chief General Katumba Wamala was made a junior Minister for Works in the government after serving as the top army official since 2013, a departure seen as a demotion.

Nonetheless, in a radio message released on Wednesday, Museveni said Musanyufu would run the Joint Chief of Staff docket.

Military spokesman Paddy Ankunda said Musanyufu has been serving as the Chief Personnel and Administration of the UPDF has on Wednesday elevated to Major General from Brigadier.

His predecessor Lt Gen Wilson Mbadi who was elevated to Deputy Chief of Defence Forces.

Musanyufu who hails from Bushenyi, Western Uganda joined the army in 1985 and is a close ally of new Chief of Defence Forces Gen David Muhoozi.

Now primary responsibility is to ensure the personnel readiness, policy, planning and training of their respective military services for the combatant commanders to utilize.

Musanyufu will also act as the chief military advisor to the President and the second-highest deliberator for Uganda’s military policy.
