AKENA MURDER: Winnie Byanyima supports alleged killer Kanyamunyu in court

The executive director of Oxfam, Ms Winnie Byanyima and wife to former Presidential Candidate Kizza Besigye Kifeefe has Tuesday attended and stood surety during the bail application hearing of jailed Matthew Kanyamunyu accused of killing Kenneth Watmon Akena, a community development officer at Lugogo in Kampala last year.

Kanyamunyu, 39, the executive director of Quantum Express Logistics is appearing in court alongside his brother Joseph Kanyamunyu, 40, and Cynthia Munwangari, 26. The accused have spent over a month in Luzira.

Matthew and Joseph Kanyamunyu are nephews to Eng. Winnie Byanyima and was presented as surety alongside fellow relatives Moses Karuhanga, Edith Byanyima and Julius Kanyamunyu.

The court is set to deliver a ruling today at 5:00pm in a bail application Mathew Kanyamunyu and his co-accused in the murder of Kenneth Watmon Akena.

High court Judge, Elizabeth Kabanda is set to deliver a ruling today at 5:00pm in a bail application after hearing submissions from both the defense and prosecution.

The defense team argued that the offence of murder can be heard, triable and bailable by the High Court while prosecution led by Samalie Wakhooli opposed the application stating that that accused have no fixed place of abode.
