Government has for now succeeded in blocking Rwenzururu King, Charles Wesley Mumbere ‘s bail application with the preliminary ruling for set for Thursday 12th Jan 2017 by Jinja High Court Resident Judge Eva Luswata.
As expected, prosecution said that the criminal division judge Eva Luswata has no jurisdictions to hear Mumbere’s bail application.
They continued by asking the judge to refer it to the International Crimes Division for a principal Judge to handle.
Mumbere is facing charges ranging from treason, terrorism, murder to aggravated robbery but his defense led by controversial lawyer Caleb Alaka today claimed that he has not yet been committed for trial hence his bail application can be heard by High Court criminal division.
The omusinga (king), together with more than 150 of his subjects [royal guards] are currently on remand at various prisons on charges of treason, murder, terrorism and aggravated robbery, crimes allegedly committed in Kasese District late last year.
