The district leadership of Gulu has for this quarter of the financial year 2016/2017 turned its focus on improving community access roads.
According to the Chief Administrative Officer of Gulu, Ms Odwar Santa, the District Local Government is injected about Shs 90 million for community access roads maintenance in the three sub counties of Paicho, Palaro and Bungatira. The rural livelihood component which is to enable a higher proportion of farm household be able to ferry their produce to markets.
The works are funded through the three-year Programme for Resilient Livelihoods in Northern Uganda (PRELNOR) that is also being implemented in the nine districts of Gulu, Adjumani, Agago, Amuru, Kitgum, Lamwo, Nwoya, Pader and Omoro.
The PRELNOR Gulu intervention area is reaching at least 140,000 households.
The project is aligned with the Vision 2040 theme of Growth, Employment and Prosperity for Socio-Economic Transformation. In particular, it addresses three of its eight priorities: increasing household incomes and promoting equity; improving the stock and quality of economic infrastructure, including access roads; and promoting sustainable population and use of environment and natural resources.
