Besigye utterances are ‘utter nonsense’, attacks Museveni’s spox, Don Wanyama

As former presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye lays his conditions for talks with President Yoweri Museveni, the Senior Presidential Press Secretary, Don Wanyama has attacked the opposition ‘excuses.’

This was in retribution to Dr Besigye’s Monday attack on those comparing him to President Museveni as people devoid of reasoning.

Don Wanyama said on Monday evening: “Besigye’s utterances are utter nonsense. President Museveni has not forced himself on Ugandans. He subjects himself to elections and wins. Ugandans are tired of Besigye’s song of claiming he was rigged when he cannot show any iota of evidence for that. FDC got less than 40 parliamentary seats out of 431 and less than 5% of local government seats. You cannot lose at all levels and expect to win the presidency.”

Mr Wanyama, a former Daily Monitor Managing Editor, was relieved of his duties at the Namuwongo based newspaper, after he ordered publication of results of a controversial opinion poll that was deemed favoring the ruling NRM government under President Yoweri Museveni.

The poll showed that Museveni was leading in rankings ahead of the 2016 elections and that FDC leader Kizza Besigye was trailing at 2 percent.

The story touched off condemnation from radical opposition leaders, specifically Leader of Opposition Wafula Oguttu who claimed it was not sponsored by the newspaper.

Wanyama’s subsequent dismissal was negatively received by most NRM leaders and supporters who questioned the Monitor Publication’s professionalism.
