There are reports that a section of the Rwenzururu royal guards who have so far evaded arrest by Brig Peter Elwelu were regrouping and very soon will launch a massiive attack on the security forces.
Brig Elwelu’s operation last weekend left the Rwenzururu kingdom palace in Kasese town in ruins and dozens dead.
But according to the militia’s beleaguered captain Bijwanga Yowasi, they have already captured Rwensololo camp in Kisinga Sub-county which they have turned into a tactical base.
“They think by charging our leader Omusinga Mumbere they have achieved victory. That is nothing, the rebellion is much alive. We are more than energized. We shall strike back and rescue all of us,” Bijwanga told Kasese based journalist Simon Turibamwe after his capture by UPDF commandos.
He also revealed that the rebels are big in numbers and have gotten several weapons that can take out this government in two groups had they not been interrupted.
Their King Charles Mumbere was detained after government forces raided his palace on Saturday.
He has been charged with murder related to the killing of a police officer in March, not the unrest over the weekend.
King Charles has denied any involvement in the violence.
The authorities accuse him of launching a secessionist movement to create a new state, to be called Yiira.
