Sheik Maj. Mohammed Kiggundu 10th senior Muslim cleric to be killed in 36 months

Uganda Police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi has warned targeted Muslim clerics they are drinking in last-chance saloon.

Police said Allied Democratic Front (ADF) assailants are the ones who this morning in Masanafu trading Center, Rubaga Division gunned down Sheikh (Maj) Muhammad Kiggundu – a former ADF rebel and leader of the Jamat Dawa Salafiya was killed together with his body guard, Sergent Edward Mukasa.

“Major Kiggundu is another victim of Muslim murder cases,” says Police Police Spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi, adding that ADF is still using it is mercenaries to murder people,” Afande Kaweesi said.

“It is sad to note that the Late Major Kigundu was going for a religious radio program at a local radio station in Old Kampala.”

The Police spokesperson has further requested all Sheikhs who were given security to maximize it. The bodyguard’s gun was found in the vehicle and the Police are yet to establish whether Major Kiggundu had a gun with him or not.

Major Muhammad Kiggundu’s killers tried their level best to hide their identities and in so doing, witnesses state that they indiscriminately shot in the air were by some bullets caught walls and doors which action scared people and they were seen scattering to create way of escape for the shooters.

Witnesses say, Maj. Kiggundu, the husband of Sylvia Namutebi aka Maama Fiina, the leader of traditional herbalists in Uganda, jumped out of the vehicle which made it easy for the killers to shoot him at close range.

In the ensuring chaos, his bodyguard was also shot dead before he could put up a fight. The attackers did not take his AK47 gun which dropped a few feet near the vehicle.

Nakawa Chief Magistrates Court has for over two years been hearing testimonies against 32 suspects accused of being behind a wave of killing of top Muslim clerics across the country. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) alleges that Sheikh Yunus Kamoga, the leader of Tabliq sect and his co-accused, directed systematic attacks against Shia and Tabliq Muslims, leaving many dead, including Sheikh Mustafa Bahiga at Bwebajja who was gunned down along Entebbe Road, Sheikh Abdulkadir Muwaya, who was killed in Mayuge District, and Sheikh Hassan Kirya, who was shot at and killed in Bweyogerere, Waksio District.
