The countdown to Black Friday has begun already. And retailers across Kampala led by online marketplace Jumia are preparing for an influx of shoppers on the busiest shopping day of the year world over.
Other online sellers have stocked up, added more commodities and beefed up online security for the expected Christmas bargain rush.
Black Friday, which began in the US, is relatively new in Uganda, but over the past three years retailers have recorded a spike in sales of more than 200%.
Stacey Mwesezi the Marketing & Community Manager for Jumia Market in Uganda told TheUgandan they were this week giving Ugandans access to more deals than ever before.
“Exclusive deals and discounts of up to 70% will be revealed across all product categories including electronics, appliances and fashion – and for the first time, the leading online marketplace will offer Black Friday discounts for a 5 day period that started on Monday 21st November,” Ms Mwesezi said.
Last year, their Black Friday broke records by attracting 17x more orders than on a normal day and 4x more traffic.
