City businessman Matthew Kanyamunyu, 39, his Burundian girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari aged 26 and his elder Joseph Kanyamunyu (40) have been charged with murder and remanded to prison after they appeared before Grade One magistrate Noah Sajjabi at the Nakawa Magistrates’ Courts on a joint murder charge.
It is alleged by prosecution’s Anne Ntimba that the trio and others still at large on November 12 along Kampala – Jinja road near Malik Car bond opposite UMA main gate caused the death of Kenneth Akena.
The trio was barred from pleading to this grave offence which is only triable by the High Court and will appear in Nakawa court on again on 6 December.
Akena, a community development officer with a local non-governmental organisation, was shot in the stomach and he died on Sunday at Norvik Hospital located on Bombo Road in Kampala.

Following the shooting, several questions have been raised including why there was no victim’s blood in Kanyamunyu’s car in which he was reportedly transported to the hospital following the shooting.
