City businessman Andrew Kananura, commonly known as Desh’s former employee Taika Emmanuel on Monday told court he was present when his fellow workers was murdered at Panamera bar.
Taika Emmanuel said was working as a service associate on September 31, 2012 at Panamera Bar when Desh, his brother Raymond Kananura and three others; Cyrus Maganda, Samuel Muzolewa and Jacob Onyango clobbered to death Badru Kateregga, a bar attendant, over Shs30, 000 the deceased had received as a tip from a customer.
He has told Justice Joseph Murangira that at around 4am he saw Desh pull the late Badru Kateregga by the collar from the bar and took him behind a counter and undressed him for a through check- up in his pockets.
Taika added that Desh got hold of a wooden handle of a scrubbing brush and roughly beat-up Kateregga demanding for more money from him and an explanation of how long he had been siphoning his company’s money.
Pleading for his life, Kateregga told Desh that the money had been given to him as a tip by a one Kenneth Kirenzi, a bar attender.
After the thumping, Desh ordered his brother also co-accused Raymond Kananura and relocated Kateregga to a spot behind the kitchen where Desh used to pack his vehicles.
Desh, Raymond, and his private security guards who were armed with a scrubbing brush, batoon, and water pipes then resumed beating the two victims for about an hour.
On January 19, 2013 Desh who had left the country after Kateregga’s death, was arrested at Entebbe Airport on his return from the UK. Three days later, he was charged and remanded to Luzira Prison for murder. In February, 2013 the High Court released him (Desh) on a Shs20million bail.
The matter has been adjourned to 30th November.
