Comic turned politician Kato Lubwama is pretty worried after he learnt that his Diploma in Music, Dance and Drama from Makerere will now be recognised with question or suspicion, or be cancelled subject to a court order.
A one Habib Buwembo petitioned the court challenging Lubaga South Member of Parliament Mr Lubwama’s academic credentials on account that he failed Ordinary Level examinations and is therefore not fit to represent residents of Rubaga division in parliament.
On Thursday, Makerere’s Academic Registrar Alfred Namoah Masikye in a response letter to Lubwama’s accuser Habib Buwembo, said if there is a court order to this effect, the university would not hesitate to recall the said Diploma.
It wasn’t until Makerere revealed that Lubwama’s mature entry to Makerere was revealed as unlawful that the legislator became inconsolable.
It’s understood Kato Lubwama was admitted at Makerere when he was 22 years old at the time he applied, and not 25 contrary to the University’s Mature Age Scheme, through which Mr. Lubwama was admitted.
He had completed his O’ Level only four years back before he applied, and not the required five years.
In his defence, the lawmaker denies ever having falsified or concealed any of his academic documents and as a person who has lived a public life, his documents have been available to all and sundry for scrutiny and verification, including the person challenging his academic credentials.
MP Lubwama beat Mr John Ken Lukyamuzi to the Rubaga seat in the February 18 polls.
