Forensics officers from Jinja Road Police Station converged on the residence of city businessman Mathew Kanyamunyu and his Burundian girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari, who police say killed a Community Development Officer (CDO) Kenneth Watmond Akena at Game Stores in Kampala on Saturday night.
Watmond Akena from Aruu North county Pader District is said to have been shot in the stomach for knocking Kanyamunyu’s car and died at Novik Hospital moments after he was admitted.

Mr Watmond made a dying declaration to Police pinning the couple. This a statement made by a person who’s death is eminent. Top city lawyer Julius Galisonga revealed that, a dying declaration a is an exception to the hearsay rule which the suspect would have used in his his defence.
Police spokesperson Mr Andrew Felix Kaweesi confirmed that, Mathew Kanyamunyu and his girlfriend were arrested basing on the deceased’s statement to help with the investigations.
“Before he died, Watmond said the two people (Kanyamunyu and Munwangari) who had rushed him to the hospital are the ones who shot him for scratching their car,” he said.
Further that the vehicles have been recovered and they had dents in the manner suggested by the deceased. However, Police did not find the suspects with any gun.
Kanyamunyu, who is the CEO Quantum Express logistics, is a nephew to Winnie Byanyima the former Mbarara Municipality MP and wife to opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye.
The shooting sparked uproar in the Acholi community, prompting many led by Aruu North County MP Odonga Otto to gather on social media platforms and demand answers.
