Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) council led by Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has apologized to the public after coming under fire after a video clip showing their officers brutally arresting a woman and her two kids in down town Kampala went viral on social media.
“We condemn the acts of brutality by enforcement officers and ask for a streamlined mechanism as far as enforcement is concerned,” the council resolved on Wednesday.
This has been during the ongoing special council meeting at city hall which was prompted by the video footage which has been circulating on social media showing the KCCA officer arresting the street vendor ‘(a mother ) in a dehumanizing manner.
Acoording to Mr. Lukwago, KCCA is now deliberating on how the city Authority can streamline the works of the enforcement team to strike a balance between enforcing and human rights.
The director of KCCA legal team Micheal Obua says so far 56 errant enforcement officers have been dismissed since the inception of KCCA.
The eviction of the vendors that came despite the city council resolution has drawn angry reactions from a section of the public.
