The arrest came after Opposition leaders including City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago paid him a visit at his home following his return from the US where he had been for about two weeks.

Shortly before Besigye’s arrest, a scuffle ensued between him and police officers who had blocked the road that leads to his home.

Besigye got out of his house, asked the police to remove their barricades but when they seemed adamant, the visibly angry Besigye engaged them physically.
