Uganda have dropped out of the top 65 in the latest FIFA World Ranking as they prepare to head to Gabon for the African Cup of Nations finals.
Micho Sredojevic’s side are down to 72nd place from 65th in the latest list published by world football’s governing body despite drawing with global football giants Ghana in a 2018 World Cup qualifier played in West Africa.
In contrast, Togo who defeated Uganda 1-0 in an international friendly on October 4th jumped seven places up from 100 to 93 riding on the win against a higher ranked Cranes’ side.
Continent wise, Nigeria occupy the 11th position on the African rankings, where Cote’d Ivoire still maintains its number one position. Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Ghana, Egypt, Congo, Congo DR, Mali and Cameroon make up the Africa top ten while Uganda’s neighbours are Kenya in the 85th position globally and 21 in Africa, Rwanda are 107(32), Ethiopia 126(38), Burundi 138(42) and Tanzania 144(44).

The Cranes were drawn in Group D along with Afcon 2015 finalists Ghana, record seven-time champions Egypt and Mali who finished third at Afcon 2012 and 2013 to complete what many have referred to as the ‘Group of Death’.
Uganda face Ghana in their opener on January 17 at 17:00 local time at Stade de Port-Gentil before taking on Egypt four days later at the same venue at 20:00.
Micho’s charges will then face Mali in their last Group D encounter on January 25 at Stade d’Oyem in the northern part of the country at 20:00.
