The life of a youth leader in Kiruhura district is in danger after the residents in his village of Kanyaryeru agreed unanimously to stone him to death if he doesn’t leave the district.
The Villagers accuse Robert Kabateraine of betrayal and promotion of clan politics in the first district of Kiruhura where the president hails from.
At a sub county meeting sitting at Kanyaryeru in Kiruhura district it was resolved to chase away an NRM youth leader Robert Kabatereine from the sub county accusing him of betrayal by joining opposition Forum for democratic change (FDC).
Kabatereine who has been the Kanyaryeru Sub-county NRM youth Chairperson on August 5th 2016 handed his NRM party card to Kizza Besigye who was the guest of honor at a reception to congratulate him from prison that took place at Kakyeka stadium in Mbarara town,
He was welcomed with more than 100 youth from Kiruhura district.
Kabatereine the founder of NRM National Youth Diehards said he left the party citing alleged discrimination between Bahima and Bairu and increasing imbalance in the service delivery.
He told the media after surrendering to Besigye that, as a youth who was born and raised in NRM, he could not continue supporting the party that has diverted from the vision that took them to the bush.
The district youth council chairman who is a staunch NRM member condemned the move of chasing the former NRM youth leader.
“I highly condemn the act of kanyaryeru leaders against The Nrm youth chairperson one Kabatereine Robert. Their act of chasing him out of the subcounty violates his right of political association which is a fundamental in multiparty system. I call for their apologies to the young man as he is free to join any political party at his choice and at anytime he feels like. Even when such was to happen the youth leaders should have sat to decide. We have the District NRM youth League executive, why didn’t they give Kabatereine a fair hearing?” Mr Moses Kamisi told our reporter
“What this boy done to the people of Kanyaryeru was betrayal like Judas did to Jesus, he was born and raised by NRM he shouldn’t have done this to join Besigye, he should look for another village to stay” One of the leaders told this website
Other furious NRM diehards in the sub county also unanimously supported the move with many saying that even all his parents are not born of Kanyaryeru Sub County thus is not from their sub county and that they will stone him to death if he doesn’t leave their district.
Kabatereine became a critic of president Museveni last year after state officials humiliated him as he tried to register his youth group.
This did not please him and he immediately resorted to backing former Prime Minister Hon. John Patrick Amama Mbabazi who toiled only 1% in the February presidential elections and since elections Kabatereine has been camouflaging behind the NRM curtains s until he crossed to FDC.
