NBS Radio’s Lubowa Kyemba is in a fresh cold war with his bosses and we are told the war was sparked off by a woman. The woman in question was a news anchor on KOTV until recently when she was asked to step aside.
Lubowa recently spoke to the KOTV boss, Yasin Khan about getting him a great news anchor. Yasin being one who wanted to make all necessary changes paid attention. Lubowa went on to disclose to Yasin that the person he was bringing was a girl and didn’t have any experience on TV but was a fast learner. Yasin Khan still paid attention. Lubowa went on with a good sales pitch till Yasin asked him to bring in this girl.
When Yasin met the girl and had a chat with her, he decided to try her out as he also tried to mentor her on how TV works. It was a rigorous two weeks for the trainer and the trainee as it had to be intense. The girl, whose name we learned was Mercy, got comfortable in the two weeks and we are told she actually thought she had the job because that’s the talk we are told she talked.
The trainer, Yasin Khan wasn’t impressed with the progress of his trainee and to add salt to injury, he heard about her talk and it worried him that a trainee at the early stage could get such braggadocios. He had to make a decision and when he did, it was that Mercy was a liability to the station and he personally asked her to step aside.
What Yasin Kahan didn’t know was that Mercy was Lubowa’s girlfriend and that explaining to her that she wasn’t ready to be on TV would be a problem. When Lubowa learned about the decision to let Mercy go, he fumed and threw a tantrum. The tantrum he threw was extended to his Facebook wall and in the August 10th post, Lubowa wrote;
“Business is business…. kati lwaaki mulwanyisa omwana anonya future God will punish you muliina agatiima agekko, give what belongs to Ceasar and to GOD,period. I don’t think she deserves it use her strength to develop her talent not her weakness. One day she will be someone mugambe nti ” kale oyo yali waffe” why those childish feelings? agalya meere ahaaa. If you are fighting Lubowa, come for me not the poor girl…. mwegase muwayiriza omwana, obusungu bwemuninakko mubutadde ku muntu atalina musango. come take on me am a son of a freedom fighter mujje mwenna kubanga you tried me and failed”
The tale here is different and shows that the bosses at NBS used Mercy as a decoy to attack Lubowa Kyemba. It should be remembered that Lubowa had a face-off with his bosses some time last year in May, which resulted in his suspension something that affected the metrics of the station at the time till they had to call him back. It is with this in mind that we cannot tell who is telling the truth here.
Our writer spoke to Mercy and she didn’t want to talk about it with the excuse that it was personal and that she had moved on. From the conversation, Mercy disclosed that she was concentrating on some business and didn’t think she would come back. She signed off with a resigned “maybe this wasn’t for me”
You can never tell who is telling the truth here but most importantly, you can never tell how far Lubowa and his bosses at NBS can go with this. We follow keenly and will let you know if there are any developments.
