A section of members of Parliament are calling for a further increase on the number of people that can attend political rallies. They say that the 200 qouta for a political rally is not adequate and they are now calling on the government to increase the number of supporters allowed places of campaigns.
The MPs fear that by limiting the numbers to 200 supporters will reduce on the number of their votes ahead of 2021 general elections.
On Monday, the Minister of Health Ruth Jane Aceng said the government has revised the number of people for a meeting from 70 to 200.
She, however, warned about observing the standard operating procedures (SOPs) aimed at avoiding the spread of Covid-19.
Ntenjeru North county MP Amos Lugolobi asked government to consider increasing the numbers or leave it open and emphasize on the standard operating procedures.
Lugolobi said that the increase in number is not practical and controlling them will be difficult
Bulamogi County MP Kenneth Lubogo in Kaliro district said that the number is good for those with support from the government.
Lubaga South Member of Parliament Kato Lubwama said that government should sensitise the public on how to live with COVID-19 and how to apply the standard operating procedures during the campaigns and stop limiting the numbers of supporters to 200 at a political rally .
