Kampala. April 26, 2018. In recent years homosexuality in Uganda has become an increasingly volatile political and social issue. The latest we gather is that Makindye Chief Magistrate has issued an arrest warrant for a one Ssebunya Charles renowned LGBT member in Uganda who is said to be on run or hiding within Makindye Division or within Kampala & its outskirts.
These events were followed by Lufuka police resorting to summon the culprits siblings Bena Ndibuza & Kakuru Patrick to provide them with more info which can lead them to the arrest & persecution of Ssebunya, However police says the criminal’s siblings seems not be so cooperative.
“We appeal to member of public that whoever has Intel against LGBT criminals should present it to his/her nearest police station,” a police statement read.
Homosexuality is an offense punishable up to 7 years jail term on conviction & life imprisonment to its promoters; however some sodomites already incarcerated seem not to give up, according to prison’s spokesman Baine Frank.
It may be recorded that the president in his recent speech condemned all acts calling them evil and ordered the police to hunt down those people who’re known for promoting LGBTs.
“Homosexuality is disgusty, sodomy is part of European culture western people impose on us homosexuality which is not part of our culture, the Bible clearly says that God created Adam & Eva as wife & husband,” the President said this during the African summit conference at Speke Resort, Munyonyo.
“In and around February 2018, Ssebunya Charles in the late 90s while in Lufuka zone, Makindye division, Ssebunya is suspected to have canal knowledge against order of the nature against his victim identified as Seruzi Isa,” police said.
“Before his last breath at Kirudu hospital, Isa confessed that he has been in a secret love affair with Ssebunya & that criminal Ssebunya told him to keep it as a secret,” police added.
Police says they got a complaint from local council chairman Lufuka a one Waswa Edward & the case was recorded on Ref No:SD 08/02/18 at around 10:30pm, file & investigations are under Katwe police station.
He was born to the family of Mr. Kayizi Thomas & Mbabazi Betty residents of Kalangala, Mpigi town council in Mpigi district.
Ssebunya went to Lujumba preparatory school for his (primary education) St. Balikudembe SSS, for O & Alevel education & later joined Makerere University for a degree in development studies.
Sexual identities in Uganda
Many Ugandans, irrespective of their religious beliefs, oppose homosexuality. They see it as a result of Western influence and against their culture.
The idea of sexual identities is well developed and accepted in the West. But it is not well established in Uganda. Some Ugandan queer activists have tried to advance locally meaningful terms – such as “kuchu” – to speak about same-sex attraction. For most Ugandans, though, sexual identity – as something distinct from a sexual act or desire – remains a foreign concept.
