At least 27 kidnap cases have been recorded across the country since this year began, Police. Spokesperson, Fred Enanga has revealed.
According to the breakdown, eight kidnap cases were registered in January, while 19 cases were registered between February 22 to April 28, 2019.
He says 2 of the 27 kidnap victims were recovered dead while two others are still missing.
Some kidnap cases were self-kidnaps. Two out of eight cases recorded in January and February were self kidnaps.
The most publicized kidnap case this involved US tourist, Kimberly Sue Endecott and her Ugandan tour guide, Jean Paul Mirenge.
The two were kidnapped in Queen Elizabeth National Park on April 2, 2019.
Kimberly and Mirenge were released by their kidnappers after receiving ransom of Shillings 100m ransom. Their kidnappers had earlier demanded a Shillings 1.8 billion.
Enanga warned the public against exposing their personal information on social media and public gatherings, saying it may end up with criminals.
Enanga emphasized the need for parents to teach their children to avoid associating with strangers who could take advantage.
