Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine who was  Monday arrested as he moved to report to police Directorate of Criminal Investigations (CID), has been charged with ‘disobedience of statutory duty’ at Buganda road court before being remanded to Luzira prisons.

In the presence of his lawyer Mr. Benjamin Katana, Bobi Wine was charged with disobedience of statutory duty when in July 11,2018 held a public meeting, the Social Media Tax demo without notifying police contrary to provisions of the public order management Act.

Court session stood over for 45 minutes after the other counsel for the accused Basalirwa Asuman asked magistrate to ask police to grant Bobi Wine’s sureties access to court premises.

He had earlier been was arrested after a crowd chanting ‘People Power’ continued to bulge as his supporters escorted him Kibuli CID headquarters to record a statement over allegations of inciting violence.

Police then fired teargas and bullets to stop a procession that was growing around Bobi Wine’s car. He was taken by Police to Nagalama  Police station in Mukono district before being driven to Buganda Road court in the afternoon.

On Easter Friday, police blocked Bobi Wine concerts around the country saying he had failed to fulfil the security guidelines. On Easter Monday, he travelled to his Busabala One Love Beach to hold a press conference, but the police didn’t allow him to access the facility and arrested him on the way. He was later put under house arrest.

This is not the first time police have summoned Bobi Wine at CID headquarters at Kibuli. In September 2017, Bobi Wine reported to CID headquarters and recorded a statement on the brawls in Parliament during a debate on lifting the presidential age limit.

Since then the police didn’t pursue the case.

He is also battling treason charges in court on allegations that he stoned a car in the presidential convoy in August 2018.
