The district Health officers under their umbrella body the Association of District Health officers of Uganda have petitioned parliament seeking for enhancement of their salary after realizing that they were left out on the recently revised wage structure.
The chairperson Association of District Health officers of Uganda David Ivan Kanya handed over the petition to the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga on behalf of all District health officers across the country.
The district health officers want their salary increased from Shs2.7 million to Shs4 million.
Kamya said that the recent enhancement of salaries for medical doctors created a disparity when suddenly, the medical doctors started earning more than their supervisors.
He told the speaker that they earn Shs2.7 million compared to Medical Officers and Dental Surgeon at Shs3 million plus the Principal Medical Officers who are paid Shs3.7 million, yet all of them are below the District Health Officer in rank.
He said that this act has demotivated most of district health officers to carry out their supervisory work.
While receiving the petition the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga promised to write to the Ministry f Public Service to have district health officers concerns addressed and their salary reviewed.
