There is heightened police security of marine vessels plying Lake Victoria.
Hassan Kihanda, the acting Deputy Director Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services, says they have stepped security and sensitization to ensure all marine passengers are equipped with live saving skills for survival in times of danger.
The move follows the recent tragedy involving MV Nyerere, which capsized on Lake Victoria in Tanzania last month killing about 400 people on board.
Only 20 passengers were rescued from the ferry that was carrying hundreds of people.
Following the incident, the operators of MV Pearl and MV Ssese issued statements assuring travellers that the transports means on the Ugandan side are safe.
Other Marine Vessels like MV Kalangala are still struggling with dilapidated propellers and engines.
