Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is expected to re-appear before the general court martial today on charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
Police allege they discovered firearms in his hotel room in Arua.
Last week the army court sitting in Gulu charged the legislator in a quiet session witnessed only by two of the MP’s lawyers. His relatives and the public were barred from the arraignment. The president’s security stormed Hotel Pacific in Arua town where they roughed up the legislators. Bobi’s driver, Yasin Kawuma was shot dead in the fracas at the hotel. No suspect has been apprehended in connection to the shooting.
The two people allowed access to the legislator were Bugiri municipality Member of Parliament and lawyer Asuman Basalirwa as well as Busiro County MP and lawyer Medard Lubega Sseggona.
Basalirwa told journalists outside Gulu barracks after the arraignment last week that Kyagulanyi could not support himself and was in pain because he had been tortured.
Kyagulanyi was then remanded to Makindye military barracks. There have been country wide protests against his detention and torture with several political and social groups calling for his immediate release.
