The Electoral Commission will hold elections for LC 1 village chairpersons in over 600 villages where polls were suspended yesterday.
The Electoral Commission notes that elections had to be called off in some electoral areas, mainly because unregistered residents disrupted the exercise when they were turned away.
Available data from the field indicates that elections were not held in about 635 electoral areas.
Elections in the affected villages will be conducted today.
According to the Electoral Commission out of 60,799 villages, a total of 635 villages did not hold elections, which reflects a 99% performance.
Meanwhile one of the candidates for Nsagazi-A village LC 1 chairperson in Sembabule district,
Zebrone Kweyamba, spent the night in police cells at Ntuusi Sub County Police station for confiscating the voters register.
Kweyamba was picked up by police after running away with the voter’s register from a polling station fearing defeat by his opponent.
Kweyamba is the incumbent village chairperson and NRM party candidate.
He was being challenged by Francis Kiyimba, an independent candidate.
According to eye witnesses, Kweyamba went straight to the presiding officer and snatched the register before running away with it leading to the suspension of the polls.
George Okuku, the Officer-in-Charge of Ntuusi Police Station, says they tracked Kweyamba and picked him up from his home.
He says they are holding him for interfering with the election process.
