Authorities at Makerere University are engaging Ugandans to embrace its new Bachelor of Chinese and Asiatic Studies Degree.

Prof. Oswald Ndolerire, the Director, Confucius Institute at Makerere University says the teaching of Bachelor of Chinese and Asian Studies will enable Makerere to prepare Ugandans to fully embrace the political, social and economic advantages that China can offer.

He says Ugandans must be able to learn the Chinese cultures and aspirations of the Chinese people if they are to benefit from what China as an emerging superpower has to offer.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences – CHUSS is expected to open the application process in August, once it has been approved by the Senate.

Prof. Ndolerire says the program has undergone thorough scrutiny and approval from the department, school and college and now awaits accreditation from the National Council for Higher Education – NCHE for accreditation.

Josephine Ahikire, the CHUSS Deputy Principal observes that studying Chinese extensively will enable students to broaden their understanding of the world.
