The Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola has ordered police officers in charge of the Very Important Person Police Protection Unit to provide extra security for three opposition politicians who reported threats against their lives.
The politicians include former FDC Party President Dr. Kizza Besigye, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu, also known as Bobi Wine.
The three will meet with different police commanders to discuss the nature of the threat, but also discuss the decision to improve their current security deployment.
The IGP’s order follows a written communication from the office of the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, indicating that he and his two collegues had received threats on social media against their lives.
Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima says different commanders have already been briefed on actions to be taken.
