Four Muslim leaders who were acquitted of terrorism and murder charges have written to the Director of Public Prosecutions Mike Chibita seeking an apology and compensation for malicious prosecution and loss of business.
The group includes Sheikh Ismail Ssentongo, Muhammad Kalodo, Musa Isa Mubiru and Yusuf Ssentamu had been jointly indicted alongside the former leader of the Tabliq Muslim section Sheikh Yunus Kamoga, for the murder of sheikhs; Mustafa Bahiga and Hassan Kirya between 2014 and 2015.
However, after 3-years the International Crimes Division of the High Court set them free, on grounds that the DPP had produced no evidence linking them to the charges, in addition to the DPP withdrawing charges against them without giving any reason.
They accuse DPP Mike Chibita of failing to make thorough investigations before sanctioning the charges.
The four Sheikhs claim they were kidnapped from Dubai, and put on a private jet to Entebbe Airport, and later transferred to the infamous Nalufenya detention facility 60 days, before being charged in court.
The 4 men who were private businessmen in Dubai are also planning to institute a case against the Government of the United Arab Emirates, for illegally handing them over to the Ugandan government.
They say they will claim for more than $5 million in compensation.
The group has now instructed their lawyers to write to the DPP Mike Chibita demanding for an apology within 7 days for their damaged reputation, or else they seek court redress.
