Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) have revealed that they are not in politics to build a united opposition but rather to take power.
The party Deputy Secretary General, Harold Kaija (pictured above) said the party was never formed to organize and build a strong opposition.
Kaija was speaking in response to the presentation by PDP president Dr. Abed Bwanika during last week’s reunion meeting of the UYD who vowed not to continue operating under the wings of the FDC as the strongest opposition party in the country and warned Dr Kiiza Besigye not to contest for the presidency in the next presidential election.
Kaija said that Dr. Abed Bwanika, a two-time former presidential candidate is also a failure to this country and has no value to Uganda’s politics therefore he shouldn’t attack those who are trying to liberate this nation.
During the 1996 presidential elections, he supported Museveni but switched allegiance to Kizza Besigye in 2001. He ran as an independent candidate in the February 2006 presidential election, where he finished in fourth place, with 0.95 percent of the vote (65,874 total votes).
He again contested the February 2011 presidential elections as the candidate of the People’s Development Party, which he founded; he is also the party’s president. The second-time around, he received about 14,000 fewer votes (51,708 total votes), garnering 0.65 percent of the popular vote.
