The National Water and Sewerage Corporation has announced an amnesty to customers who have been disconnected for over 3 months.

According to Mr Sam Apedel, the NWSC spokesperson, ‘Come We Talk’ or Jangu Twogere’, a campaign by the water utility expects more than 30,000 customers to get back on the NWSC supply through this drive. It targets clients disconnected due to non-payment or illegal use of water for more than three months.

The campaign provides the customers flexible payment options once they are willing and ready to get back onto NWSC supply as they seek to achieve 100 percent coverage of Uganda by 2021.

“NWSC is mindful of the need to achieve the objective of ensuring safe clean water is provided to all Ugandans by 2021,” Mr. Apedel said in a statement.

“To this end, the corporation has announced an amnesty to customers who have been disconnected for over 3 months.”

Some of the benefits of the campaign include flexible arrears payment options to the customers with waived reconnection fees for those willing to go back on supply while free meters are provided and amnesty period for up to six months for customers who willingly report illegal water connections at their property.
